Welcome to Your New NOPS Membership

The Club Committee and members welcome you into NOPS. This is the members club and we are here to provide you with the club we can all be proud of.

NOPS held its inaugural meeting in January of 1987 at the Flying Horse on Front Street in Arnold. We still have one of the founder members in the club, Steve Roper CPAGB (NOPS honorary lifetime President).

We now meet 50 week a year except for Christmas at the Church Hall at “St James Church”, Marshall Hill Dr, Mapperley, Nottingham NG3 6FY, unless we have an outside event planned. Please check our program on the website or in the newsletter before you travel to meet us. After most of the Club Meeting some members go to The Punch Bowl, 214 Porchester Rd., Nottingham NG3 6HG for a drink, ALL members are welcome to join us for a drink.

We are a people focused societies, catering for young or old. Encourage beginners, enthusiasts, amateurs & professionals We encourage everyone to participate in our full program of events, which include; Lectures, Displays, Practical events, Outside events, Inter-club, International and Internal competitions, Social evenings.

When you pay your weekly subs on a club night, you have the chance to purchase 50/50 Tickets. The money for these is split 50/50, 50% going to the club funds, and 50% going to the prize pot. The draw for the 50/50 is usually made monthly on the last club night of the month which is usually a club competition.

The club runs 10 monthly competitions February to November, which alternate between printed (3 images max per category per competition) and projected digital images (2 images max per category per competition), each competition is divided into two halves: an open half where there are no restrictions on the subject of the photograph and a themed half where the subject of the photograph must conform to the set theme for that month, more details are on the club website. We have an external judge who gives critiques and decides on the winning image on the night for both the themed and open sections. The scores from these monthly competitions are accumulated for the ‘Outlaw of the Year’ Trophy.

In January we run the Members Choice competition, this is an open competition restricted to images that have not been entered in any previous NOPS competition. All the members attending on the competition evening score the photographs.

In December we run the David Cawthan Memorial Trophy, held in memory of one of our founder members. The aim of this competition is to show your overall competence in different genres of photography.

The closing date for entering any competition is one week before the compertition.
