January 2026 – Members Choice Competition
January is traditionally the start of the Outlaws competition year and “Members Choice” is the first competition of the year. It is a stand-alone competition having both PDI and Print sections. It is open to all members and the contributions especially in the DPI format are quite significant with forty-six entries in total.
The judging is carried out by the membership on the night and the DPI images are projected onto a large screen with several run throughs allowing members to make notes and each choosing their own individual top six entries.
The Print competition takes part in the second part of the evening with prints being displayed allowing all images to be placed side by side for direct comparison.
Again, judging is carried out by the attending members on the same basis as the DPI competition, no voting for your own image and your top six in order of preference.
Members Choice DPI Section
It was fantastic to see so many entries into this section with twenty-nine in total and all to a very high standard, I personally thought it was quite a challenge to whittle twenty-nine down to just six but after several run throughs I did manage to have my top six selected. We all handed in our ballot papers for counting and the final scores came in as follows……………………
1st place went to Andy Gibbons with his image “Bike Reflection”
2nd place went to Patrick Wallis Ray with “Cuckoo”
3rd place went to Sue Jackson with “Fungi on Bark”

The images above are the top six in the PDI section as voted for by the members.
Bike Reflection by Andy Gibbons; Cuckoo by Patrick Wallis, Fungi on Bark by Sue Jackson, End of A Long Walk by Andy Gibbons, Snow Trail by Malcolm Nabarro and Woodpecker & Blackbird by Patrick Wallis.
Members Choice Print Section
The second half of the evening was devoted to the print section of the competition, there was sixteen entries from four authors and the images were displayed for all to see and I was thrilled to see so many high-quality images, a real feast for the eyes.
After collecting the members voting slips, the announcement of the winners was made.
1st place went to Patrick Wallis with “Greenfinch Battle”
2nd place went to Malcolm Nabarro with two of his images collecting the same number of votes “Pulteney Bridge “ & “Figures in the Mist”.

The images above are the top six in the print section as voted for by the members.
Greenfinch Battle by Patrick Wallis, Pulteney Bridge by Malcolm Nabarro, Figures in the Mist by Malcolm Nabarro, Selfridges by Chris Holdsworth, Sparrow Hawk by Patrick Wallis, Barn in the Yorkshire Dales by Patrick Wallis.
Members Choice is always a fantastic start to the Outlaws year as it provides a glimpse of the quality of the images to come with eager anticipation for the forthcoming photographic year.
