NOPS 2nd Print Competition Report

After an enjoyable club print competition last night, competition secretary John Young presents his usual report of the evenings proceedings.

We held the second print competition on 26 May. The theme was symmetry and as usual we enjoyed an excellent set of prints from a wide gamut of photography styles. Thanks go to the judge Trina Fitzalan-Howard who gave an informative and interesting commentary on the images. She was keen to see a story behind the image that made the photograph stand out. She picked out a number of images as being of an excellent print standard. Congratulation must go to George Reilly who had two out of three images held back in both the open and themed sections. In the open section scores of eighteen went to Lester Woodward for Lady in Black, Lois Webb for Return to the Old Ways and Chris Houldsworth for his well caught Red Arrows action shot called I’m Outta Here. Two nineteens went to Tabby for her atmospheric Costa Steam- you could just about smell the coffee and George Reilly for Grey Heron. The high standard of entries was reflected by the three twenties going to Tom Cross for Orchid, George Reilly for Low Tide Mark and Jack Worsnop for the section winner Psychedelic Balls. In the themed section eighteens went to George Reilly for Rigged for the Storm and Lester Woodward for Buttermere Panorama. Nineteens went to Lois Webb for Roof Guardians on the Jingan Temple, and also her Newgale Sands Butterfly, Tom Cross for Two by Two and George Reilly for Beneath Saltburn Pier. Twenty went to both Chris Houldsworth for John Rylands Library and Lester Woodward for the best shot of the evening, his Fountains Fisheye. Well done to all entrants for a splendid set of images that kept us all entertained.
