How long have you been a photographer?
I have been taking photographs since I was 7 years old, though I was only allowed about 2 films a year because the processing cost so much. I loved waiting for the packet of 24 prints arriving on the doormat.
First camera?
My Grandad’s old Box Brownie
Current camera?
Nikon D300. Nikkor 24-120mm, Nikkor 50mm and Tamron 10-24mm
Favourite photographic genre?
Street, documentary and especially environmental portraits
What are your influences/favourite photographers?
Early influences was National Geographic photographers and Steve McCurry and Don McCullen. More recently I enjoy my connections on social media. There is so much fantastic visual stimulation available it is hard to pin point a single photographer. My mentor whilst in China, Sharron Lovell (www.sharron-lovell.com), has certainly helped me immensely with her mantra ‘light before subject’ though I really enjoy images with a story too.
Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph?
Miao People in China. Japan. Llama farmers in Peru. New York
Cheers
Lois
